Everything Is Alive: A Different Way of Seeing the World

This is not a metaphor.
When energy healing practitioners say that everything carries energy, they are not speaking poetically. They are describing a framework for understanding the world that predates modern science by thousands of years and that modern science is, in many ways, catching up to.
At the most basic level, everything that exists is made of atoms with electrons in constant motion around a nucleus. That motion is energy. The chair you are sitting in, the walls around you, the stone you picked up on a walk last summer because it felt right in your hand: all of it is in motion at a level too small for your eyes to register. Nothing is truly still. Nothing is truly inert.
Different traditions have named this differently. Prana. Chi. Qi. Mana. Vital force. The words change across cultures and centuries but the observation is the same: there is something animating living things, and that something does not stop at the boundary of what we have decided to call "alive" or has a "body."
When you walk into a room where an argument just happened, you feel it. When you hold an object that belonged to someone you loved, you feel it. When a place feels wrong, or sacred, or heavy, or like coming home, you feel it. That felt sense is perception. You are reading the energetic information of your environment the same way you read temperature or sound, through your body.
This is why energy practitioners pay attention to the objects in a space, the history of a place, the things people carry with them. Everything has a story written in energy. Learning to read that story, and to work with it consciously, is what energy healing practice is really about.
A Simple Practice
Sit quietly with an object that has meaning to you. Hold it in both hands. Close your eyes. Without trying to think anything specific, just notice what you notice. Warmth or coolness. A sense of weight or lightness. An emotion that arises without obvious cause. A memory, yours or not quite yours.
You are not making this up. You are paying attention in a way most of us were never taught.
That is where this work begins.
