The Fire Is Lit: Working with Moon Energy in the Season of Beltane

You made it to the fire.

Beltane marks the beginning of summer, the height of the light half of the year. The earth is becoming fully awake, the sun is dominant, and the generative energy available to you right now is some of the most potent of the entire wheel. Spring did its slow coaxing work. Beltane is where that work catches fire.

The moon does not stop being your guide just because the sun is strong. If anything, the lunar cycles that follow Beltane deserve more attention, not less, because the energy available to support your intentions right now is genuinely extraordinary. Learning to work with the moon in this season is learning to work with a current that is already moving in your direction.

A Note on How We Work with the Moon

At Healing Arts Academy we honor a distinction that most modern lunar calendars overlook. The Dark Moon, sometimes called the Shadow Moon, is its own phase, the period of complete lunar absence before the cycle renews. This is the time of deepest stillness, of composting if you will, of protective work, of sitting with what needs to end. It is not the New Moon.

The New Moon arrives approximately three days after the Dark Moon, when the first sliver of new light becomes visible in the sky. the New Moon is genuinely new energy. This is the time for planting intentions, for beginning, for speaking clearly what you want to call into your life.

This distinction is important: the energy of release/stillness and the energy of beginning/movement are not the same thing. Treating them as the same phase takes away something really important. The Dark Moon asks you to let go. The New Moon asks you to plant. Trying to do both at once dilutes both.

Working with the Moon from Beltane Forward

The first Dark Moon after Beltane is your invitation to release anything that did not make it through the spring with you. The intentions that did not sprout. The version of yourself you were still carrying from winter that no longer serves. Let it go cleanly. Do your protective work. Clear your space. Make room.

Three days later, the New Moon arrives and this one carries the full weight of Beltane's generative energy behind it. Plant deliberately here. Write your intentions. Speak them aloud. This is not the time for vague hoping. Be specific about what you are calling in.

As the moon waxes toward fullness, tend what you have planted. Take action. Show up for the thing you said you wanted. The waxing moon supports momentum, building, expansion. Use it.

The Full Moon in this season illuminates. It shows you what is already growing, what needs more tending, and what is ready to be celebrated.

The waning moon invites completion. Finish what needs finishing. Tie up what is loose. Weed out what no longer is needed. Prepare for the next Dark Moon and the next round of compost and rest.

This is the rhythm. It does not stop. You just get better at moving with it.

Start with this

On the first New Moon after Beltane, go outside if you can. Hold something that represents what you are growing in this season of light. A seed, a stone, a piece of paper with your intention written clearly and without hedging. State it aloud once. Then tend it. The moon will meet you there.
